Who makes this, how, and the rules it keeps
Your Daily Subtext is a free, independent explainer covering money, markets and the economy: the things that affect everyday life, translated out of jargon and into plain English.
Who’s talking
Rob
A plain-speaking man who spent thirty-five years running commercial businesses in logistics, sales and machinery.
He is not a financial adviser and does not pretend to be one. He reads the announcement, the small print and the numbers, and says what he makes of them.
“I’ll be honest, I thought they’d blink. They didn’t — and the reason is the bit that matters: they think the fuel shock burns out on its own.”
Rob’s read, 17 September, on the Bank of England holding its interest rate
Every piece ends the same way. “My read” is what Rob makes of the story, said out loud. Where he takes a position, he says what would prove him wrong. It is a view about the world. It is never a view on what anyone should do with their money.
Rob will never message you privately, ask for money or recommend an investment. Anyone who does isn’t him.
How a piece is made
AI does the digging. Humans make the call.
- Two or three stories a week
- The week’s money news is sifted for the stories most worth understanding, built around the dates that move household money. Rob chooses them.
- Facts first
- The figures come from named sources, the original wherever possible: the Bank of England, the Office for National Statistics, a company’s own results. Every number in a script has to match its source before the script goes any further.
- Written to be heard
- About two minutes, in plain English, with jargon explained the first time it appears.
- Approved by a person
- Some of the research and drafting uses AI tools, always under human editorial control. Nothing is published until Rob has read it and approved it.
The rules
What you can hold it to
- Education, never advice
- Nothing here says what to buy, sell or hold, and nothing here is a personal recommendation. For that, speak to a regulated financial adviser.
- No tips, no hype
- No hot stock tips, no fear and no “you need to know this now”.
- Every figure has a source and a date
- Everywhere on this site. Averages are labelled as averages.
- Nobody pays to be mentioned
- There are no adverts, sponsors or affiliate links.
- Mistakes get corrected
- If something is wrong, say so at rob@yourdailysubtext.com and it will be checked and put right.
Every story has a subtext
